The Maryland Tavern, your local hub on Maryland Drive! Offering a daily menu of revamped Australian pub classics, our fully renovated venue is the perfect spot for lunch, dinner, or entertainment near key locations like the University of Newcastle.
We are currently seeking a talented Chef to join our team in a full time permanent position working 38 hours a week.
Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years' experience as a Chef, preferably in a pub, bistro, or casual dining environment, and also hold a Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or an equivalent qualification).
The successful applicant will also have:- A demonstrated ability to run a fast-paced kitchen and confidently lead a team.
- A solid understanding of food safety regulations, including NSW Food Authority standards.
- Proven experience in menu development, portion control, and cost management.
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to remain composed under pressure.
- A passion for food and a dedication to delivering unforgettable dining experiences.
- The ability to inspire, motivate, and train kitchen staff effectively.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- A calm and adaptable nature, thriving in high-pressure, fast-paced service environments.
- A team-oriented mindset with a positive, can-do attitude, fostering a supportive work culture.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Menu Creation and Development: Design and refresh a diverse, high-quality menu featuring pub classics, seasonal specials, and crowd-pleasing dishes tailored to patrons' tastes.
- Food Preparation and Cooking: Prepare and cook meals to consistently high standards, ensuring excellent flavour, portion control, and visually appealing presentation.
- Kitchen Operations Management: Oversee daily kitchen activities, supervise staff, and ensure timely, efficient service while upholding hygiene and food safety standards.
- Stock Control and Cost Management: Handle inventory, ordering, and food waste reduction to maintain cost targets without compromising quality or supply.
- Food Safety and Compliance: Ensure all kitchen processes meet food safety regulations, with equipment properly maintained and the kitchen kept clean and organized.
- Team Leadership and Development: Train, guide, and support kitchen staff, fostering a motivated, skilled, and cooperative team environment.
