    About the role

    The primary responsibility of a Chef revolves around their designated cooking station. They coordinate the activities of other kitchen staff to ensure consistent, reliable, and high-quality food is delivered to our loyal customers. Furthermore, Chefs engage in tasks such as delegation, training, menu item creation, stock management, problem-solving, and collaboration with other teams, highlighting the multifaceted nature of their role. Ultimately, a Chef at The Coffee Emporium Hornsby Cafe is expected to train and mentor other kitchen team members in accordance with our organizational culture, fostering their growth and development.

    Roles/Responsibilities:
    • Developing menus, assessing expenses related to food and labor, and managing food procurement.
    • Executing food preparation, seasoning, and cooking with precision.
    • Vigilantly assessing the quality of dishes throughout the entire process, from preparation to presentation.
    • Providing guidance on cooking methodologies and demonstrating culinary techniques.
    • Orchestrating kitchen activities and ensuring adherence to workplace health, safety, and sanitation standards.
    • Crafting and cooking top-tier dishes with precision and expertise.
    • Directing and delegating tasks within the food preparation process.
    • Upholding health and safety protocols with diligence.
    • Ensuring consistent excellence in food quality across all prepared dishes.
    • Overseeing operations at all kitchen stations.
    • Motivating and supervising team of various skill levels.
    • Maintaining high standards of food quality and timely service.
    • Strategy in menu planning considering budget constraints and seasonal ingredient availability.
    • Managing all facets of kitchen operations.
    • Coordinating kitchen staff activities and helping as needed.
    • Training staff in the preparation and cooking of menu items.
    • Managing inventory and placing orders for replenishment.
    • Enforcing kitchen safety and sanitation standards rigorously.
    • Innovating new recipes to diversify and enhance the menu offerings.
    • Staying abreast of industry trends and developments.
    • Soliciting and implementing feedback to enhance performance and offerings.
    • Working harmoniously with the kitchen, venue, and group management teams, following directives effectively.

    • Fulfilling any additional duties or tasks assigned within your skill set, qualifications, and capabilities.
    Qualification and Experience Requirements:
    • AQF associate degree or Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Hospitality Management or equivalent
    • At least 3 years work experience if no relevant qualification
    • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a fast-paced cafe or restaurant environment.
    • Creativity and passion for food, with a keen eye for detail and presentation.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and collaborate effectively with team members.
    • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
