Mason GW & Moore K N are currently seeking a Dairy Cattle Farmer to join their team in Simpson, Victoria full time.
The purpose of the Dairy Cattle Farmer is to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the dairy herd to maximise milk production, animal health, and overall farm efficiency, while maintaining high standards of animal welfare and pasture utilisation.
This role is responsible for ensuring the herd performs to its full potential through excellent stockmanship, attention to detail, and proactive decision-making across all areas including milking, feeding, reproduction, and herd health. The Dairy Cattle Manager plays a key role in implementing farm systems and supporting continuous improvement to drive productivity and profitability.
Working closely with the farm owners, this position contributes to achieving production targets, maintaining a positive team culture, and creating a well-organised, efficient, and enjoyable working environment.
Duties and responsibilities:- Manage herd health, welfare, and performance to maximise milk production and cow condition
- Oversee daily milking operations to ensure efficiency, milk quality, and equipment function
- Support feeding and pasture management decisions, working alongside farm management to implement grazing plans and feeding strategies
- Drive reproductive performance through heat detection, joining, and calving management
- Lead and support staff to ensure work is completed efficiently and to a high standard
- Maintain farm systems and records while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience in a dairy farming role, including milking, animal handling, and daily operations and hold a relevant Bachelors Degree, or have at least 5 years experience as substitute in lieu of a qualification.
Applicants will also have:- Practical ability in animal health, calving, and reproduction management
- Experience working in a pasture-based system (preferred)
- Ability to work independently and within a team, with good attention to detail and efficiency
- Strong stockmanship and attention to animal behaviour and wellbeing
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work efficiently, stay organised, and manage time effectively
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to use initiative
- Reliable, consistent, and takes ownership of responsibilities
A salary of $80,000 - $90,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.
