  • About us:

    Able Bus and Coach is a long-established manufacturer of remote area truck buses. Located in Bayswater WA we currently employ 40 staff. There are three workshops onsite covering a full range of skills required to manufacture coaches.

    About the role:

    We are looking for an experienced and qualified Vehicle Body Builder to join our team in Bayswater WA. Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor this role will be responsible for the construction of bus frames and other metal frames from lengths of steel and steel sheeting.

    Duties:
    • Modifying wheelbase length on chassis to suit body type.
    • Cutting, welding, grinding and drilling of main chassis rails.
    • Fabricating Chassis Cross Members and centre Hanger for Drive Shafts.
    • Extend/shorten chassis air lines and wiring.
    • Relocation and fitting of chassis components to suit body type.
    • Modifying rear cab window opening to suit cab to body connector.
    • Follow safe lift/mounting procedure in accordance with prepared SWMS/WRAP.
    • U bolt mounting of module to chassis.
    • Connection of battery and cables.
    • Cut, prepare and fit wooden floorboards.
    • Fit electrical components to module.
    • Fitting Bull bars, tow bars, air operated steps /doors, water tanks, toilet, cabinets, TV monitors, electrical appliances, doors, door locks and handles, seats and covers air conditioning fibreglass components to bus interior, decal, side mouldings and high vis tape.
    • Spraying storage areas with decorative paint.
    • Final cleaning and detailing of complete bus.
    • Carrying out quality checks.
    • Accurately recording task times.
    • Designing and manufacture of bus components.
    • Steel hoops and lengths are assembled in bus jigs and welded.
    • Additional components such as pressed sheet metal underbody boxes are constructed, fitted and welded into the bus frame structure.
    • External facing welds are ground flat using 5-inch electric grinders.
    • Completed bus frames are straightened using oxy heating torch.
    • Overhead gantry crane is used for frame rolling and the loading of frame onto transportation trailer.
    • Recording of task hours are performed.
    • Various sheeting materials are measured, cut, folded and prepared for cladding of bus frame.
    • Frame surfaces are prepared and a combination of double-sided tape and adhesive/sealer is applied, prior to the fixing of panels.
    • Panels are fixed onto frame using tape, adhesive/sealer and/or rivets.
    • Additional components are also fitted in the process including pre-wiring, A/C components, rear light assemblies etc.
    Role Requirements:
    • current and valid Welding and Fabrication qualification.
    • the ability read, interpret and evaluate engineer's drawings and follow procedures
    • proficient in MIG and flux core welding.
    • use safe work procedures when using electrical workshop equipment and hand-held tools.
    • good problem-solving skills

    • good verbal and written communication skills
    • the ability to work individually and within a team
    • have pride in your work with a high quality of workmanship
    • high level of skill using power tools
    A salary between $75,000 - $80,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.
