The Benson Family Trust T/A Local Folk Pty Ltd is a well-established and highly regarded café located in the heart of Kensington, Melbourne. Known for our quality coffee, modern brunch menu, and welcoming community atmosphere, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional food and service in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our growing team on a full-time basis.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, preparing and presenting high-quality café-style meals, supporting menu development, and supervising kitchen staff to ensure efficient daily operations.
This role requires a hands-on chef with strong organisational skills, leadership ability, and a passion for producing consistently high-quality food in a busy café setting.
Key Responsibilities:- Plan and prepare breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu items
- Assist with menu development, seasonal updates, and weekly specials
- Oversee daily kitchen operations and workflow
- Supervise and train kitchen staff
- Maintain food quality, presentation, and portion control standards
- Monitor stock levels, order supplies, and manage stock rotation
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health regulations
- Minimise food wastage and contribute to kitchen cost control
- Coordinate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service
Skills & Experience Required:- Minimum 2 years' experience working in a commercial kitchen
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
- Proven ability to supervise and support kitchen staff
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications:- Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent industry experience)
- Food Safety Supervisor certification preferred
Salary:- $77,064 per annum plus superannuation
