  • Weldmet Fabrications Pty Ltd is currently seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator / Steel Fabricator to join their Melrose Park team in South Australia.

    Duties and responsibilities:
    • Study and interpret structural steel drawings, engineering plans, blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
    • Select, clean, prepare, measure and mark out steel and other metal stock for fabrication.
    • Cut marked-out steel sections and shapes using oxy-fuel equipment, hand tools, power tools and metal cutting machinery.
    • Shape, bend, drill, punch and prepare steel sections, cleats, connection plates, beams, columns and related structural components.
    • Fabricate structural steel products and components for residential projects, and other construction-related fabrication work as required.
    • Align, fit and assemble steel parts using measuring instruments, hand tools, levels, clamps and workshop equipment.
    • Join metal sections using MIG/GMAW welding, arc/SMAW welding, bolting and other fabrication techniques.
    • Examine welds for bead width, penetration, precision, dimensional accuracy and quality compliance.
    • Finish fabricated products by grinding, filing, cleaning, deburring and smoothing welds and sharp edges.
    • Apply protective coatings and paint to fabricated steel components when required.
    • Load, move and position steel materials and fabricated components safely, including by forklift where appropriately licensed.
    • Maintain tools, machinery, work area and housekeeping to safe workshop standards.
    • Follow Australian WHS requirements, PPE protocols and all reasonable directions from supervisors.
    • Assist other tradespersons and team members with fabrication, installation and workshop tasks as required.
    Required skills, experience, and qualifications:
    • AQF Certificate III (including at least two years of on-the-job training), or AQF Certificate IV, or alternatively at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications
    • Minimum 1 years of hands-on metal fabrication / structural steel fabrication experience
    • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, blueprints and specifications.
    • Experience cutting, measuring, marking out, drilling, punching, grinding, bending and assembling steel sections.
    • Ability to use relevant workshop equipment such as welders, oxy-fuel cutting equipment, magnetic drills, grinders, metal cutting machines and measuring tools.
    • Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, PPE and safe handling of heavy steel materials.
    • Forklift, white card, EWP/working at heights or other relevant licences/tickets are desirable but may not be mandatory unless required for the specific site.
    A salary of $75,000 - $85,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.
