  • Australian Food & Fibre (AFF) is a modern, integrated business that combines significant knowledge and expertise to supply quality Australian cotton to the world, as well as cereals, pulses and oil seeds.

    We have a career opportunity for a skilled Organisation & Methods (Quality Classing) Analyst to join our team in our Artarmon laboratory, 2064, New South Wales.

    Overall Responsibilities:

    At the Australian Food & Fibre, Artarmon, facility you are responsible for testing, evaluating and grading our agricultural commodities. They ensure that raw materials (primarily cotton) meet strict domestic and international quality standards before they are exported or sold.

    Daily tasks:
    • Fibre testing - operating specialised laboratory instruments to analyse the physical properties of cotton samples. This includes measuring fibre length, strength, micronaire (fineness), maturity, and colour.
    • Assess current systems - analyse and evaluate capabilities, and workflows to identify bottlenecks and process gaps.
    • Commodity grading - applying standardised classing rules to assign grades to cotton lint. This determines the market value and spinning utility of the crop.
    • Sample management - preparing, tracking, and cataloguing physical samples sent from various AFF farming and ginning operations (such as their sites in Moree and Narrabri).
    • Data Analysis - recording and verifying data within classing and laboratory software systems, ensuring that every batch meets the requirements of export contracts.
    • Quality assurance - monitoring laboratory equipment calibration to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
    • Classing and compliance - develop, maintain and enforce Quality Auditor standards, reviewing operating procedures and advising on any departures from established guidelines.
    Our ideal candidate will have:
    • Hands-on trade experience through on-the-job training OR Certificate III in Cotton Ginning OR specialised industry-recognised classing grader advantageous OR an IT background will better equip you with the analytical skills required in our laboratory and for this role.
    • Minimum 2+ years of experience in procedural/business/computer analysis, continuous improvement or quality control
    • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, IT, Commerce, Operations Management or a related field will be highly regarded.
    While a formal agricultural degree can be advantageous for career advancement with us, our hands-on approach for you to function well in the role is to assist you in gaining certification from Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry as part of your induction with us and a requirement for our quality control and cotton exporting criteria.
