  • GJ & AD Turnbull Pty Ltd T/A Al's Panelshop are seeking an experienced and qualified Automotive Spray Painter to join our team in the Northern Territory. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing vehicle surfaces for painting, masking and protecting areas not to be painted, mixing and matching paints, applying primer and finishing coats using spray equipment, inspecting completed paintwork, maintaining painting equipment, and ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety requirements and quality standards.

    Your role will include, but is not limited to:
    • Clean, grind, sand, and smooth vehicle panels and surfaces to remove rust, rough spots, and imperfections using hand and power tools.
    • Sand surfaces by hand and with power sanders to prepare them for painting.
    • Precisely mask and protect areas not intended for painting using tape, paper, and specialised coverings.
    • Remove masking tape and paper following completion of the painting process.
    • Measure, mix, and test paints, lacquers, rust-proofing agents, and primers to achieve the exact colour shade and manufacturer specifications.
    • Select and mix pre-mixed paints to achieve accurate colour matching.
    • Experience in water-based paint application is preferable.
    • Connect hoses, load coating materials into spray equipment, and calibrate air pressure and nozzles for optimal paint coverage.
    • Apply primer, base, and finishing coats evenly using spray guns in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
    • Sand surfaces between coats where required to achieve a high-quality finish.
    • Experience in water-based paint application is preferable.
    • Clean and maintain all spray equipment, hoses, spray booths, and extraction fans to prevent contamination and ensure equipment reliability.
    • Inspect finished paintwork for defects and perform corrective touch-ups as required.
    • Remove masking materials and apply wax or polish to finished paintwork where required to achieve a quality finish.
    • Adhere strictly to Work Health and Safety (WHS/OH&S) requirements, including the safe handling of hazardous chemicals, rust-proofing materials, and the mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    Applicants must have:
    • Relevant trade qualification AQF Certificate IV with at least one year of relevant experience. Alternatively, at least three years of full-time relevant experience in lieu of a formal qualification.
    • Advanced knowledge of paint mixing systems, colour matching techniques, and spray gun operation.
    • Strong hand-eye coordination, physical fitness, and the ability to perform repetitive manual tasks while standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
    • Have a good attitude and the ability to work in a team environment.
    A salary of $75,000 - $85,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.
