  • Coffee Flower is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our busy café team. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality café-style meals while maintaining exceptional food safety and hygiene standards. The role requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, contribute to menu development, and consistently deliver excellent customer dining experiences.

    The successful applicant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
    • Prepare, season and cook a wide range of café-style meals, including all-day breakfast dishes, brunch items, sandwiches, burgers, salads, pasta, light Japanese-inspired meals and daily specials.
    • Assist in planning, developing and updating menus in consultation with management, incorporating seasonal produce, customer preferences and current food trends.
    • Estimate food requirements and assist with ordering, receiving and monitoring stock levels to minimise waste and ensure product availability.
    • Inspect food ingredients and finished dishes to ensure quality, freshness, consistency and compliance with business standards.
    • Prepare ingredients using appropriate cooking techniques, including grilling, frying, roasting, poaching, baking and steaming.
    • Portion and plate meals to a consistently high presentation standard.
    • Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is prepared safely and efficiently.
    • Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen in accordance with Food Safety Standards and HACCP principles.
    • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies and food handling regulations.
    • Assist in supervising and coordinating junior kitchen staff where required, providing guidance on food preparation and kitchen procedures.
    • Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service and a positive customer experience.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of kitchen operations, workflow efficiency and menu offerings.
    Essential Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of café-style and contemporary Australian cuisine.
    • Experience preparing brunch and all-day breakfast menus.
    • Excellent food preparation and knife handling skills.
    • Sound understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP principles.
    • Ability to manage multiple orders in a high-volume service environment.
    • Menu planning and recipe development skills.
    • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
    • Stock control and inventory management experience.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure.
    Qualifications

    Essential:
    • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework)
    Desirable:
    • Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or Diploma of Hospitality Management.
    Experience:
    • Minimum one (1) year of full-time post-qualification experience as a Cook in a busy café, restaurant or hospitality venue preparing café-style meals and breakfast/brunch menus.
    • Experience working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen with high customer service standards.
    • Experience with menu planning and maintaining food quality and consistency is highly regarded.
