  • AMOS Restaurant are seeking a passionate cook with at least one to three years' hands-on experience in modern Australian pub (bistro) cuisine, ideally in a restaurant. This is a full time role in Tennant Creek, and applicants must be confident with fast-paced service, quality control of premium ingredients, gluten free/dietary adjustments, and teamwork across kitchen and floor operations. Experience with authentic or modern menu execution is strongly preferred.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Food Preparation & Cooking:
    • Prepare and cook menu items to spec (e.g., steaks, seafood, burgers, salads, pasta, modern Australian fusion dishes)
    • Follow recipes and portion controls to ensure consistency
    • Handle different cooking methods: grilling, frying, roasting, sautéing
    • Assist with daily prep (chopping, marinating, sauce prep, etc.)
    Menu Execution & Quality Control:
    • Ensure all dishes meet presentation and taste standards
    • Adapt to seasonal menu changes and specials
    • Monitor food quality during service (no overcooking, correct plating, etc.)
    • Report any issues with ingredients or equipment
    Kitchen Operations:
    • Work efficiently during busy service periods (lunch/dinner rush)
    • Communicate clearly with chefs and front-of-house staff
    • Follow kitchen workflow and ticket systems
    • Assist with stock rotation (FIFO - first in, first out)
    Food Safety & Hygiene:
    • Follow food safety standards (e.g., HACCP principles)
    • Maintain cleanliness of workstations and equipment
    • Store food correctly (temperature control, labelling, dating)
    • Comply with local health regulations
    Inventory & Stock Control:
    • Assist with stocktakes and ordering
    • Minimise waste and control food costs
    • Notify supervisors of low stock or spoilage
    Teamwork & Communication:
    • Work as part of a kitchen brigade under the head chef/sous chef
    • Support other sections when needed
    • Train or assist junior staff if required
    • Maintain a positive, professional attitude
    Adaptability in Modern Australian Cuisine:
    • Prepare fusion-style dishes
    • Handle dietary requirements (gluten-free, vegan, etc.)
    • Contribute ideas for specials or menu updates
    Basic Maintenance & Safety:
    • Use kitchen equipment safely (grills, fryers, ovens)
    • Report hazards or maintenance issues
    • Follow workplace health & safety (WHS) guidelines
    Applicants must have:
    • Formal qualification in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III or higher)
    • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen equipment
    • Creativity and passion for culinary arts
    • Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
    • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
    • Minimum 1-3 years of experience
    A salary of $70,000 - $80,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.
