ABOUT THE ROLE
Stone Works (VIC) Pty Ltd Trading as Thermawood Gippsland & Peninsula specialises in retrofitting insulated glass units into existing timber windows and doors. We preserve the original timber joinery while upgrading its glazing, thermal performance, draught sealing and weather resistance.
We are seeking an experienced Glazier to measure, prepare, fit and install flat glass and insulated glass units into existing timber window and door systems.
This is a specialised and physically active onsite position combining glazing, glass handling, timber-window restoration and precision machining. The successful applicant must be comfortable working independently, solving problems onsite and completing work to a consistently high standard.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Inspect existing timber windows and doors and determine the correct type, dimensions and installation method for the required glass.
- Accurately measure window and door openings and calculate glass sizes, tolerances and clearances.
- Examine glass and insulated glass units before installation, identify and mark defective areas, and report or isolate damaged, incorrectly manufactured or unsuitable units.
- Safely remove existing glass, glazing beads, window sashes and associated components.
- Measure and mark large removed glass sheets, score and cut them along marked lines using glass cutters and straightedges, and safely break off excess glass using notched tools and glass pliers so it can be safely handled, transported, recycled or disposed of.
- Safely handle, position, pack, fit and install flat glass and insulated glass units into existing timber windows and doors.
- Perform gasket glazing and install glazing seals, drainage systems and weatherproofing components.
- Apply compatible glazing sealants and ensure installations are watertight, correctly drained and properly finished.
- Use glazing tools and equipment safely when preparing, removing and installing glass.
- Machine and enlarge existing timber glazing rebates using high-powered routers, biscuit cutters and other appropriate portable machinery.
- Manufacture, modify and install timber glazing beads where required.
- Repair deteriorated or rotten timber windows using appropriate timber-repair techniques and epoxy-resin systems.
- Remove, adjust, reinstall and reweight double-hung window sashes.
- Refit window hardware and ensure windows and doors operate correctly after glazing.
- Identify and resolve problems involving aged timber, out-of-square openings, previous alterations and non-standard construction.
- Protect clients' homes and maintain clean and safe residential worksites.
- Check completed glazing for appearance, operation, weather resistance and compliance with required quality standards.
- Coordinate onsite installation work and provide guidance to less-experienced installers when required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants should have:- A relevant glazing trade qualification and at least one year of relevant glazing experience; or, in lieu of a relevant qualification, at least three years of substantial, directly relevant glazing experience.
- Demonstrated experience measuring, handling, fitting and installing flat glass and insulated glass units.
- Experience with residential window and door glazing.
- Familiarity with gasket glazing, setting blocks, packers, glazing seals, drainage and weatherproofing systems.
- Confidence using routers, biscuit cutters and other high-powered portable tools.
- Demonstrated ability to complete precise timber-window repairs.
- Practical experience using two-part epoxy-resin timber-repair systems.
- Strong glass-handling, glazing and manual-tool skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to consistently produce a high-quality finish.
- The ability to work safely and independently in occupied residential properties.
- Strong onsite problem-solving skills.
- The physical fitness and strength required to safely handle glass units, timber sashes, tools and equipment.
- A current Australian driver licence.
- Full Australian working rights.
- A current White Card would be advantageous but is not essential for the position.
- Experience with timber-window restoration, double-hung windows or retrofit double glazing will be highly regarded.

You understand that retrofitting existing timber windows requires patience, care and sound judgement because every property and window is different. You will be comfortable travelling to residential worksites throughout Gippsland, the Mornington Peninsula and surrounding areas.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:- Permanent full-time position.
- 38 hours per week.
- $85,000 per annum plus superannuation.
