Furniture by Design Pty Ltd require a Furniture Maker to join their team in Padstow, NSW.
Position Purpose
The Furniture Maker fabricates, assembles and finishes timber furniture and furniture components at Furniture by Design's Padstow manufacturing facility. The role produces prototypes, samples and production furniture across the company's upholstered furniture and casegoods ranges, constructing pieces from solid hardwood, softwood and timber panel products using traditional construction techniques and modern machinery including CNC routing equipment. As the company's prototype and sample maker, the position translates product designs and CAD models into workshop drawings, cutting lists, CNC programs and physical first articles, develops and documents construction details, and refines construction methods for production.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:- Study and interpret product designs, CAD models and specifications; prepare workshop drawings, technical drawings, cutting lists and material take-offs for manufacture
- Develop construction details and methods for new and existing furniture pieces, translating design concepts into buildable specifications in consultation with the design and production teams
- Construct prototypes and samples of new furniture designs: making and fitting joints, assembling components and resolving construction, fit and tolerance issues
- Fabricate and assemble production furniture and furniture parts, including frames, tops, bases and casegood components; glue, cramp, screw and fit prepared parts
- Prepare CNC programs and cut files from CAD models; set up and operate CNC routing machinery, and check machined parts against drawings
- Select timber, veneers and panel products; mark out, measure, cut and shape components using saws, planers, routers and other woodworking machinery
- Fit hardware, fittings and mechanisms; sand, smooth and prepare timber surfaces, and apply and rub back finishes, stains and polishes
- Document construction methods, materials and specifications for production handover; maintain tools and machinery and keep a clean, safe work area in accordance with WHS requirements
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:- Qualification in furniture making, cabinetmaking or furniture design/technology (AQF Certificate III or higher, or equivalent), or at least three years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to read, prepare and produce work from technical drawings, CAD models and specifications; proficiency with CAD software for workshop drawings and CNC cut files.
- Proficiency with hand tools, portable power tools and fixed woodworking machinery.
- Experience with CNC machining of timber and panel components (or aptitude to be trained).
- Knowledge of timber species, furniture construction methods, hardware and finishing systems.
- Ability to work with designers to resolve construction details and produce accurate prototypes and samples.
- Awareness of and adherence to relevant Australian Standards for furniture.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety and quality standards.
This is a full time permanent position (38 hours per week).
Remuneration: $80,000 - $85,000 per annum.
